As reported in a Apr 18 Wash Post article by Christopher Rowland, Trump is actively blocking a way to control runaway drug prices. Amazingly there is a legal provision in the Bayh Dole Act that allows Fed Govt to suspend a drugmaker’s patent in the case of excessive pricing and license someone else to produce the drug. Patient advocates are calling for the implementation of this provision. And of course Big Pharma has now commandeered Trump to move to strictly limit this little known power. But, hey!, why has this mechanism to “march in” not been used yet? Elizabeth Warren or any of you Dem candidates, pull this curtain open wider!
